Abstract

After analyzing complications according to dialysate volume adjustment in the introduction period for 152 adult peritoneal dialysis patients who have been operated on catheter insertion at the K hospital during Jan. 1989 -Dec. 1991 and Jan. 1994- May 1995, the effective and useful approaches have been seeked. As increasing the volume of dialysate, the raw data have been collected through direct clinical observations and the records of the peritoneal dialysis room. Then, the data have been classified according to the complications related with catheter and have been narratively described. Among the total 152 patients, the catheter related complications are as follows:
The dialysate leakage cases were 12, the hernia cases were 2, the exitsite bleeding cases were 10, the peritonitis cases were 5, the catheter dislocation cases were 5, the exitsite infection case was 1, andthe catheter occlusion cases were 2. The complications in the introduction period of peritoneal dialysis have been reduced with the careful planning of peritoneal dialysis schedule according to each patient¢¥s overall conditions including physical and medical facets.
